Oldfields School – Hairspray (Musical)
Major productions are chosen to dovetail with academic classes. For example, students performed A Voice of My Own by the contemporary playwright Elinor Jones which depicts the struggle of female writers such as Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, and Sappho, whose works the students studied in English classes. Past productions include: The Childrens Hour, The Miss Firecracker Contest, The Secret Garden, 12 Angry Women, Steel Magnolias, Regarding Electra, The Fantasticks, Grease, Godspell, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, and Cinderella.
The David Niven Theatre, where all of the productions are held, is located on campus. Its technical equipment includes an advanced lighting console and a state-of-the-art sound system. The stage is 23 feet by 27 feet, and the auditorium has 180 seats. The backstage area has a dressing and make-up room, plus storage for costumes, props, and scenary.
All students are encouraged to join Playmakers, the student-run drama club that meets every week.
